Talk about a lucky find! An “Antiques Roadshow” guest got the surprise of a lifetime when a book she picked up for a mere $2 at an estate sale turned out to be worth thousands.
The guest, a young woman, brought in a copy of “The Lawes Resolutions Of Women’s Rights,” a 1632 publication considered the first compilation of English laws regarding women’s rights. Appraiser Martin Gammon confirmed the book’s significance, noting its discussion of topics like marriage, divorce, and even polygamy and rape.
While the book showed some wear and tear, including staining and a missing page, Gammon was still impressed with its condition. He asked the guest what she thought it might be worth. Hoping to “double her money,” she replied, “$4?”
Gammon, with a knowing smile, then revealed the book’s estimated auction value: a staggering $6,000 to $8,000. The guest’s stunned reaction – a gasp followed by an incredulous “Oh my God!
Are you serious?” – speaks for itself. After recovering from the initial shock, the guest celebrated her incredible find with cheers of “Women’s rights!”
