Forsyth County weighs funding for sheriff training facility

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is working to complete converting an old elementary school into a law enforcement training center.

Since October, the training center has hosted a public safety academy as part of a partnership between the sheriff’s office and University of North Georgia. The academy, funded by the sheriff’s office, provides training for law enforcement officers in Forsyth County and surrounding jurisdictions, Capt. Rob Heagerty said.

At an April 22 work session, the County Board of Commissioners discussed a proposal to allocate $47,993 for design services with architectural firm Wiley Wilson to create plans, conduct inspections and make changes to water heaters…
