DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Steelton Mayor Ciera Dent released a statement Saturday in response to Cleveland-Cliffs decision to idle several of their locations in Pennsylvania, including Steelton, affecting over 500 employees in the community.
Steelton has long been defined by its hardworking people—many of whom have poured generations of labor, sweat, and pride into that mill. I want to extend my heartfelt concern and unwavering support to every worker and family affected by this decision. I see you. I stand with you. And we will navigate this season—together. I want to express my sincere gratitude to our local, county, and state partners who have already stepped forward to offer support. We are committed to working collectively to create immediate solutions and long-term strategies to support displaced workers and protect the economic stability of Steelton.
Though the idling is not a permanent closure, it will still present massive challenges for families in the area that depend on the mill for an income…
