Supporters rally to keep Onondaga Dragway open

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Supporters are rallying outside the Sloan Onondaga Dragway to keep the track open following an Ingham County Circuit Court order closing it indefinitely.

A 6 News reporter is at the rally and says that people in attendance are sharing their thoughts on the closure and showing their support for the dragway and its owner, Woody Sloan.

Onondaga Dragway shut down

Last night, drivers rallied on Lansing’s south side, calling for the track to reopen.

Participants were allowed to gather at Everett Plaza, just south of Holmes Rd. on Cedar St., for over an hour and a half. But when the noise from some vehicles became too loud, police moved in and broke up the event.

In late April, police say two cars racing each other down S Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. near Pierce Rd. caused a five-vehicle crash that sent 13 people to the hospital, eventually resulting in the death of a 15-year-old passenger who was inside one of the racing vehicles.

The crash caused widespread concern around the city of Lansing from residents and city officials alike, who are currently trying to find a way to crack down on illegal street racing in the area…
