David Hudnel has lived in Pennsylvania’s Lower Macungie Township region for many years. The Little Lehigh Creek winds through the town, and historic monuments dot the landscape. Including a wooden bridge that provided access for residents. Hudnel and his neighbors, however, refused to risk its integrity with the weight of modern cars —even though the bridge’s limit reads 10,000 lbs.
“None of us drive across the bridge, we just walk over it,” Hudnel told CBS Philadelphia.
Then, one day, the little town was in for quite the surprise when a young driver decided to take a 27,000 lb truck full of propane over the bridge. The wooden bridge collapsed before the truck could make it to the first supporting pillar, sending the truck into the creek…
