Deputies warn of new scam in WNC

HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is warning people of a new scam that is traveling through the Upstate.

People have been receiving a calls from individuals pretending to be a local Register of Deeds and demanding money from the target in order to have their deed “returned.’ A few individuals have even received fake letters demanding the same thing.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people that law enforcement and government officials will never ask for money over the phone. They will also never ask for payments through things such as crypto, gift cards, and other unconventional methods of payment…
