Keep the Midlands Beautiful accepting shoe donations

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — Keep the Midlands Beautiful is asking residents to clean out their closets — and help clean up the community — by donating used shoes as part of its annual shoe drive, now underway through the end of May.

The effort, which collects between 5,500 to 6,500 pairs of shoes each year, plays a vital role in supporting the nonprofit’s mission of maintaining cleaner, greener neighborhoods throughout Lexington and Richland counties.

“It helps the community because it permanently keeps the shoes out of local landfills,” said Traude Sander, executive director of Keep the Midlands Beautiful. “It also helps people in developing countries because these shoes are being sent overseas by an organization we work with called Funds2Orgs.”…
