AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The race for Councilmember Place Three is going to a runoff. Current councilman Tom Scherlen received 47%, while David Prescott received 45%. A runoff occurs when a candidate fails to receive to get 50% plus one. Prescott spoke with us about going into a runoff.
“Going into the runoff, it is my prayer for Amarillo that we can have unity, that we can bridge the anger on both sides and really what is going to move Amarillo forward and Amarillo moving forward is going to be a city council that is unified in a shared mission in getting things done,” said Prescott.

Now, Scherlen and Prescott will have about six weeks to continue campaigning before the runoff. Before election night councilman Scherlen told us that he works hard to get answers for the citizens of Amarillo, and he spoke to his supporters about what he needs between now and June.
