AUSTIN – With all eyes on Duncanville’s Brayden Williams, Harlan’s Tate Taylor became the unexpected star with a stunning national record performance to win the Class 6A 100-meter dash at the UIL state track and field championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Taylor’s wind-legal time of 9.92 seconds broke the previous mark set by Florida’s Christian Miller (9.93) in 2024. Miller was signed with Georgia but opted to turn pro last year and finished fifth in the 2024 Olympic Trials. The city record (9.99) previously set in 2007 by Stevens’ Rynell Parson is also toppled.
“I always kind of run, not necessarily to run fast, but just for fun,” Taylor said. “You always have to make it fun. Don’t make it a hobby. Don’t make it a job. Just love what you do. And, with that, beating that record obviously sets the tone across the nation and now there’s a target on my back, and I just have to keep working.”…
