Schenectady police to host free pet food pop-up events for families in need

The Schenectady Police Department, in collaboration with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS), is launching a series of free pet food pantry pop-up events for city residents in need, beginning next week.

The initiative, part of the Pets Are Family Too Assistance Program, is funded by a $20,000 grant awarded to the city in 2023 through the Better Cities for Pets™ program. The program was developed by Lieutenant Michael Dalton and Animal Control Officer Elizabeth Booke and reflects the city’s commitment to supporting pet-owning residents facing economic challenges.

The first pet food distribution event will take place on Tuesday, May 6 , from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Park Dog Park, 500 Iroquois Way . The event is open to all City of Schenectady residents and will be staffed by MHHS, which is providing the food and additional support…
