SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A band of showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf waters are pushing toward the Suncoast. At the same time they will be dissipating as the get to the coast. The amount of rain available for us is very low, mainly 0.01” to 0.05”. And you’ve had all you’re going to get by 9 AM Sunday, so Markets should be dry.
Highs are mainly in the low 80s for the Sunday, which is 2 to 3 degrees below average for early May. Every day winds will shift to the West in the afternoon. That brings air over the cooler Gulf waters and pushes it inland. That caps our high temps near the coastal areas, while areas east of I-75 could hit 90°. Dew points will hold in the upper 60s to near 70°, giving us humidity you will notice, but nowhere near our summer time humidity.
A weak cold front will settle into Florida by mid-May. That front could bring a better chance of more widespread rain next weekend. As we head into late May and early June, we ease into our summer rainy season with thunderstorms popping up every afternoon
