WASHINGTON — Bright yellow balloons dotted the gloomy sky over a crowd of brain cancer survivors at Freedom Plaza on Sunday morning. Each survivor marched down Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest at the 28th Race for Hope DC, which raises awareness and money for the National Brain Tumor Society.
13-year old Kendal Cunningham was among the advocates participating in the race. She was just seven years old when her dad passed away from glioblastoma, an aggressive and deadly form of brain cancer. He was diagnosed when she was an infant and was a fixture at the race before he died.
