Kaila Mederios’ dream the night before that she would break ISU long jump record becomes reality

The night before the Idaho State track team was going to Boise to compete in the Ed Jacoby Twilight Meet last week, Bengal long-jumper Kaila Mederios had a dream.

“I actually had a dream that I broke the school record with a 20-foot jump,” said Mederios, a junior from Meridian. “I’m not joking. I actually had that dream the night before and I don’t dream often.”

When she woke up, Mederios, whose previous personal best in the long jump was under 19 feet, figured if nothing else, the dream was a good omen for the day. She had been recruited to ISU three years ago as a long jumper, but had found herself plateaued with not much improvement in recent seasons. She was also coming off a hamstring injury. So actually breaking the school record of 19 feet 10.5 inches, which was set by Marci Payne way back in 1988, was not on her agenda on April 26…
