Tacoma Announces Upcoming Street Closures for Residential Street Restoration Program

Tacoma residents may need to plan some detours in the coming weeks as the city rolls out its Residential Street Restoration Program maintenance. Starting May 5, there will be a series of street closures that are necessary for the upkeep of our urban driveways. This information comes following an announcement from the City of Tacoma’s official website, which listed the scheduled maintenance work.

There’s a span from May 5 through May 9 where South J Street will be off-limits between South 74th and South 75th streets. Residents who navigate these areas should expect and prepare for detours. The closures are, of course, dependent on the whims of weather, and the city reserves the right to shuffle the schedule if the skies dictate necessity. According to the city’s announcement, additional closures will follow in subsequent weeks.

The following week, from May 12 through 16, will see East Harrison Street closed for maintenance between McKinley Avenue and East J Street. This is another cog in the machine of infrastructure upkeep, an effort from the city to ensure smoother travels down the road, both literally and figuratively.
