Valley Metro light rail activity increasing ahead of Phoenix South Central Extension debut

PHOENIX — Train activity in Phoenix is set to increase as the Valley Metro and the city prepare for the opening of the South Central Extension in June, according to a Friday announcement.

As part of the South Central Extension, which is set to open on June 7, trains will operate more in the following areas:

  • Fifth Street to Third Avenue along Washington and Jefferson Streets
  • McKinley Street to Sherman Street along Central and First Avenues
  • Sherman Street to Baseline Road along Central Avenue.

As part of the light rail activity, the following platforms and stations will be closed until June 7:

  • Washington Street west of Central Avenue
  • Jefferson Street west of Central Avenue
  • Central Avenue between Jefferson and Washington streets
  • Lincoln and First Avenue
  • Lincoln and Central Avenue
  • Buckey and Central Avenue
  • Pioneer and Central Avenue
  • Broadway and Central Avenue
  • Roeser and Central Avenue
  • Southern and Central Avenue
  • Baseline and Central Avenue.
