Des Moines Man Pleads Guilty In Colfax Child Neglect Case

A Des Moines man is to be sentenced next month for leaving a baby home alone while he and a Colfax woman went to a convenience store to get food. 35-year-old Mathew Braun has pleaded guilty to two counts of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, a class C felony. District Court Judge David Faith has set Braun’s sentencing for June 16th. His co-defendant, 32-year-old Tami Jo Hodges, pleaded guilty to the same two charges. Last month, she was given two simultaneous ten year prison terms.

According to Colfax Police, Braun and Hodges admitted leaving an infant without any supervision for 20 minutes on August 21st of last year. Colfax Police Chief Jeremy Burdess responded to a call about a dog bite at a West Broadway Street residence, and heard an infant crying……
