The Belfair Bypass, a planned new highway route to ease the traffic congestion around the North Mason community, is moving forward. With an environmental assessment process complete, the project’s right-of-way hearing and acquisition process is planned to begin next year.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) completed the environmental assessment of the SR3 Belfair Freight Corridor, a $66 million project also known as the Belfair Bypass, last year. The Federal Highway Administration issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the project in November. Next, WSDOT is working on finalizing the design and completing the right-of-way acquisition for the project, Mark Krulish, a spokesperson at WSDOT Olympic Region, told Kitsap Sun.
