Driver airlifted after rollover crash on U.S. 1

A man was airlifted in critical condition following a single-vehicle rollover crash at 11:59 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 1, north of Southern Pines.

The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 1 and North May Street, when authorities say the driver of a Ford F-150 was headed southbound and veered off the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree in the median and rolled two times before coming to a stop in the left northbound lane of U.S. 1.

Emergency crews responded quickly, and the driver was transported by air to a trauma center due to the severity of his injuries. No other vehicles were involved.
