City of Mobile considering Historic Avenue Overlay around Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — The City of Mobile is looking to revitalize the neighborhood centered around Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

The historic avenue overlay is an area mostly filled with properties zoned for single-family and two-family residences. The overlay extends down to parts of St. Stephens Road, Spring Hill Ave, N. Broad Street, and Northwest to Three Mile Creek.

“This area was platted in the 1900s, so typically you would have seen a much smaller lot, where you would have seen shotgun homes and just a much smaller architectural development footprint on these lots.
