Power outage causes 8-hour sewage overflow at Webster plant

WEBSTER, N.Y. (WROC) — For 8 hours overnight, there was a constant overflow and discharge of wastewater at Walter W. Bradley Wastewater Treatment Plant on Phillips Road in Webster because of a power outage that shut down equipment and disabled the internet-based alarm system that would have alerted someone to the problem, according to New York State and Town of Webster officials.

A state report says the waste was sent to Lake Ontario, though its impact to “public areas” remains unknown.

Town officials say the outage occurred at 8 p.m. Sunday “tripping numerous process equipment and pumps at the plant.”…
