San Diego to close dozens of bathrooms at beaches, parks in budget slicing effort

Visitors at San Diego’s beaches and parks might need to start planning ahead when it comes to using the bathroom: The city has tentative plans to close dozens of public restrooms in an effort to slash its spending on parks and recreation services.

The proposed budget cuts come as the city faces a $258 million budget deficit , one that officials are attempting to rectify through a reduction of public services. Included in those reductions is the closure of more than two dozen restrooms, city spokesperson Benny Cartwright told SFGATE via email.

Four restrooms will be fully closed at parks and beaches along the city’s shoreline, with one restroom closing half its stalls. Thirteen restrooms in Mission Bay will also close, as well as seven restrooms in Balboa Park and seven portable restrooms on Fiesta Island.
