Amarillo considers mandatory microchipping to reduce shelter overcrowding

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — City officials in Amarillo are discussing two new ordinances aimed at addressing the issue of pets escaping and ending up in the city’s overcrowded animal shelter.

The proposed measures include mandatory microchipping for all dogs and cats living within city limits and increased fines for owners of pets that repeatedly escape.
