A man in Texas has received two life sentences after DNA match confirmed him as the culprit in the sexual assault of two young girls nearly 40 years ago.
The Man Responsible for Two Sex Crimes Four Decades Ago
62-year-old David Roy Mundt was charged with two separate counts of child sexual assault. One count was from 1986 in Arizona while the other was 1992 in Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) had the DNA of each case submitted to the crime labs, listing two possible matches. The two suspects, who were brothers, were eventually narrowed down to just David Roy Mundt, after his brother was ruled out as a possibility.
The 1986 Sexual Assault Solved Case
On July 6, 1986, officers in Phoenix, AZ, responded to a call about a burglary that took place in a family’s home. It wasn’t just household items that were stolen, as a young girl was also reportedly missing from her bedroom.
The toddler was later discovered by neighbors and returned home, where officers discovered she had been sexually assaulted. The culprit was not identified, and the case remained unsolved for nearly 40 years …
