Amsterdam man arrested on firearm charges

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Police arrested an Amsterdam man on Sunday after a firearm investigation. Isaiah Kahn, 21, is facing several felony charges.

On May 4, Amsterdam Police received reports that someone had brandished a gun toward another person around 12:50 p.m. on Glen Avenue. Police learned that the suspect had also allegedly slashed the tires of the victim’s car before fleeing the area in another vehicle.

Patrol officers later pulled over a car matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle on Union Street. The driver, identified as Kahn, was reportedly found to have a loaded handgun as well as a quantities of a synthetic prescription medication and cash within the car. He was taken into custody at the scene.

During the ensuing investigation, detectives learned that Kahn had another pistol at his home which officers later recovered from the house, along with more of the synthetic prescription drug and a high capacity ammunition device. Police stated that the gun found at Kahn’s home had previously been reported stolen out of Georgia. Kahn now faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • Second-degree menacing
  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Fourth-degree criminal mischief

Kahn was arraigned before Judge Lisa Lorman in Amsterdam City Court following his arrest. He was then held at the Montgomery County Jail on $10,000 cash bail, $20,000 bond or $100,000 partially secured bond.
