Virginia native Gabby Douglas becomes a Hall of Famer

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Gymnast Gabby Douglas – who was born in Newport News and grew up in Virginia Beach – has been named to the 2025 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame class.

“In 2012, Douglas became the first Black woman to win an Olympic all-around gymnastics title,” NBC Sports reports. “She added team gold in 2012 and 2016 and returned to competition last year for the first time since the Rio Games.”

Joining Douglas are track and field star Allyson Felix, who won a record 11 Olympic medals and seven golds from 2004 through 2021, and tennis legend Serena Williams, who won four Olympic gold medals between singles and doubles…
