San Diegans facing steep fines from state’s new crosswalk parking law

SAN DIEGO — A new state law prohibiting parking within 20 feet of crosswalks has resulted in over 4,300 tickets issued in San Diego, causing frustration among residents in densely populated neighborhoods.

Daylighting law, which went into effect Jan. 1 but wasn’t enforced until March 1, is aimed at improving pedestrian safety. It requires drivers to leave a 20-foot buffer zone when parking with the front of their car facing a crosswalk.
