Gregory Williams, 42, ID’d as suspect killed after officer dragged, shot

NEW ORLEANS — Police have identified the man killed in Friday’s chaotic scene outside the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas Street that left a New Orleans police officer seriously injured.

Gregory Williams, 42, died from a gunshot wound after police say he dragged an officer with his car following an overdose response, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The incident began around 10:40 a.m. Friday when officers responded to reports of a man overdosing in a vehicle near St. Andrew and Rousseau streets, close to the Walmart parking lot. An officer administered Narcan to reverse the overdose, but police say Williams became “erratic” after regaining consciousness…
