Chapter of Alabama music history comes to a close as demolition begins at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Demolition has begun at the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre, marking the end of a live music venue that was a constant in Pelham for nearly 40 years.

On Tuesday, the city of Pelham announced that the longtime venue, which first opened in 1986, was already being taken down. The demolition was part of an agreement the city had with Live Nation, the venue owner, ahead of the opening of the Coca-Cola Amphitheater in downtown Birmingham.

“What a run it’s been,” the city posted on its Facebook page Tuesday. “Oak Mountain Amphitheatre has been the soundtrack to so many unforgettable nights in Pelham—iconic performances, first concerts, and memories that will last a lifetime.”…
