Austin Community Seeks Justice for Anthony Salas, Victim of Fatal Shooting and Carjacking Incident

On the night of May 3, a tragic incident occurred at the intersection of Ross Road and Thome Valley Drive, where Anthony Salas, a young Hispanic male born on December 25, 2004, fell victim to tragic circumstances involving the theft of his family’s vehicle. In an early morning 911 call, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office was alerted that a vehicle had been stolen from the Sun Chase Neighborhood. Shortly afterward, the Austin Police Department received another distressing call about a person being struck by a vehicle near Del Valle Elementary School.

The subsequent homicide investigation rapidly unfolded to uncover that Salas was fatally shot and hit by the vehicle he tried to recover. As reported by the Austin Police Department’s official statement, detectives and crime scene specialists were quick to arrive on the scene to meticulously collect evidence and gather witness statements. Camera footage, crucial to the investigation, has depicted several potential persons of interest who seem to have been involved in vehicle burglaries across South and East Austin on that fateful night.
