A Texas couple faces charges for alleged TennCare fraud in Memphis, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has reported. Richard and Tammy Banks of Texas were facing a series of allegations as they were arrested last month, each slapped with a single count of theft of property worth $10,000-$60,000, according to Action News 5.
The investigation kicked off in July 2024 when a TennCare Managed Care Organization raised the alarm about the couple, alleging they had submitted fraudulent claims related to the care of a Memphis patient, during a time when they resided in Texas, an unethical gambit that apparently led TennCare to incur losses spanning thousands, as disclosed in a Local Memphis report. The TBI uncovered that between January and November of 2024, the Banks had submitted these personal care claims for the Memphis patient without actually providing the services they reported.
