SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Scams targeting social media users are nothing new, but some victims said they feel powerless when it comes to getting help from the platforms themselves.
Darin Clark knows the feeling. He was locked out of his Facebook account for more than a week after scammers took control of his page, used it to impersonate him, and attempted to defraud his friends and family.
Scammers began posting listings for high-value items — including an $11,000 truck, several cars, and a tractor — and claimed he was selling them to raise money for his father, who they said was now in a nursing home. It was all fake, but some of his followers believed it.

“I had family members reaching out to see how my dad was, family members reaching out to see if they could buy cars,” he said. “You can’t even get into the page to let people know it’s a scam.”…
