DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Former DeKalb County Sheriff Don Lauer, who served in the position for most of the 2010s, has died, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday. He was 62.
Lauer started working with the department in 1991 and served as sheriff from 2011 until retiring in 2018. He then returned to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office in 2023 and served in a part-time role until his death.
“Sheriff Lauer was dedicated to protecting the citizens of DeKalb County and will be sadly missed,” part of the department’s Facebook post read.
