Gainesville church plans demolition, some push for preservation of buildings: ‘This is a historic area of downtown’

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -A Gainesville church plans to tear down some aging buildings it owns, but some residents believe this would erase an important part of the city’s history. What some view as rundown and replaceable, others see as worth restoring.

“Please do not demolish this significant block of buildings,” said Melanie Barr, a historic preservationist.
