Rutherford school board prayer decision faces ‘Separation of Church and State’ opposition

The Rutherford school board’s recent decision to pray at meetings faces opposition from a national organization in Washington, D.C.

“We have received a complaint that on March 20, 2025, the Rutherford County school board voted to begin opening its meetings with prayer, ” an April 16 letter to elected officials said from Americans United for Separation of Church and State staff attorney Ian Smith.

The letter from the advocacy organization urges the board to “please end the practice of opening school board meetings with prayer .”…
