Teachers claim Student Code of Conduct inspires mayhem at Rockford Public Schools

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Earlier in the 2024-2025 school year, a knife pushed one teacher to their boiling point inside Rockford Public Schools.

“He had a knife in school. That’s a weapon,” claims the high school teacher – granted anonymity to protect their identity. A high schooler bringing a knife to school ignited their concerns for how District 205 administers its Student Code of Conduct: rules and discipline strategies for student misbehavior.

“Nothing was done until teachers found out that the student did have a knife,” says the educator. According to this year’s code, prohibited weapons include pocketknives (or “any metal object with a sharp blade). In the ”Corrective Strategies” section, consequences for bringing the item include expulsion or out-of-school suspension up to 10 days…
