South Carolina Man Facing Charges in North & South Carolina

Henderson County — After a joint investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Unit and Fugitive Apprehension Unit, a South Carolina man wanted on several felony offenses was taken into custody in Henderson County.

Sammy Clayton Weaghington, 57, of Greenwood, South Carolina, was the subject of an investigation by the Property Crimes Unit in 2024 after he used a closed bank account to fraudulently buy a trailer from a Henderson County company. He was wanted for Felony Worthless Check and Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense, but he left the area before they could find him.

Investigators discovered reliable evidence that Weaghington had returned to Henderson County on May 6, 2025. He was working for a debris removal company helping with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene when officers found him at a works site in the Fletcher subdivision.
