In a statement obtained by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, Trevor Wood, a 31-year-old man from Jacksonville, has been indicted on charges of attempted online enticement of a minor. The indictment, returned recently, alleges that Wood engaged in activities online with the aim of luring a person, whom he believed to be under 18, into sexual activities. Between January 7 and April 18, Wood is accused of using a cellphone and the internet in an attempt to persuade, induce, and entice a minor into sexual activity. Facing a minimum of 10 years to a potential life sentence in federal prison, if convicted, the seriousness of these allegations is underscored by the federal system’s stringent sentencing guidelines. Noteworthy it is that under U.S. law, an indictment is not evidence of guilt, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation into this case, which will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Diane Hu.
