BATON ROUGE, La. ( Louisiana First ) — Taste soul food dishes from cooks in the Baton Rouge area at the Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival from May 17-18.
Families can attend the food festival for free from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Main Library, 7711 Goodwood Blvd. The music lineup features performances from a variety of genres, including jazz, R&B, blues, funk and more.
The Pioneer Award is given each year to a person who has contributed to the Louisiana soul food industry. This year’s honoree is Cynthia Green of Owen’s Grocery Deli and Market on Balis Drive in Baton Rouge. The nearly 90-year-old business started by her parents serves homestyle breakfasts and lunches to hungry customers.
