PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — After a stretch of warm and dry spring days, Mother’s Day in the Pacific Northwest is set for a change. If you’re planning a brunch or any outdoor activities with mom, be ready to encounter rain showers on Sunday.
Our next round of rain looks to set up over the weekend as an upper level trough of low pressure shifts into the region. A cold front will slide through northwest Oregon, dropping widespread showers that may increase into the afternoon on Sunday. Rain totals on Sunday could reach 0.1 to 0.25 inches by the end of the day. Rain showers will carry over into Monday for a wet start to the week.
If you’re planning any outdoor activities, your best bet may be during the first half of the day. As the afternoon progresses, rain chances will increase with widespread showers across the Willamette Valley.
This cool and showery pattern will persist into early next week with temperatures dipping back down near seasonal normal, or even slightly below normal in the low to mid 60s. The average high temp for this time of the year is in the upper 60s.
So, keep the rain gear handy! Or plan something cozy for mom. Even with a little bit of rain, it’s always a good day to celebrate the people we love.
