1 in custody, area secure after Omaha Police negotiate with armed individual

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Police spent more than an hour Thursday night negotiating with an armed person on the southwest edge of the Downtown Omaha area.

Omaha Police told First Alert 6 at the scene that officers responded to the area of 19th and Jones Street, near the Douglas County jail, just before 7 p.m. after receiving a report of a man walking around with what appeared to be a handgun.

Authorities set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and received multiple calls, which helped them locate the suspect. Crisis negotiators and a mental health clinician responded as well…
