Lowcountry man wins $75,000 from scratch-off ticket bought at Hanahan Lowe’s

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) — A Lowcountry resident received an unexpected windfall when he discovered his scratch-off lottery ticket was worth $75,000, according to lottery officials. The winner, who’s ticket was checked at the South Carolina Education Lottery’s Claims Center in Columbia, described the experience as “pretty exciting.”

Before making the two-hour journey from Hanahan to Columbia, he had the $3 scratch-off ticket verified at the Lowes Foods on Tanner Ford Boulevard, where he initially purchased it, lottery officials said. The grocery store clerk informed him that the ticket had won more than the $500 the store could pay out, but did not disclose the exact amount.

Upon learning the true value of his ticket at the lottery office, the winner expressed his surprise and happiness. He plans to save his five-figure prize for the time being…
