Madison City Schools’ Ed Nichols named District IX Superintendent of the Year

MADISON, Ala. — Dr. Ed Nichols, superintendent of Madison City Schools, has been named the Alabama State Superintendent Association’s District IX Superintendent of the Year and is now a finalist for Alabama Superintendent of the Year, district officials announced.

Nichols, who came out of retirement in 2020 to lead Madison City Schools, previously served 28 years with Decatur City Schools in roles ranging from teacher to superintendent.

Before accepting his current position, Nichols served as interim superintendent in Madison when Dr. Dee Fowler retired in late 2016. He later returned permanently to the role, replacing Robby Parker who retired on February 28, 2020…
