BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — While the celebrations of the next chapter for the Catholic Church continue in Rome, here in Buffalo we’re hearing from students and staff from St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute on their reaction to the announcement of Robert Prevost being picked to be the next leader of the Catholic Church.
“I think it’s a great and exciting thing to have a new pope and also a first American pope,” said William Hynes, a senior religion teacher at the high school. “The fact that he was chosen so quickly with two-thirds of the cardinals electing him tells us how respected he is. We did not expect an American pope, so it was a surprise.”
