Hey friends,
I want to talk about something that’s been heavy on my heart this week. If you love dogs like I do, I can’t think of anything terrible happening to my Molly and King. Prepare This story will hit you hard, but it’s also a reminder of just how amazing our Evansville community can be.
A Shocking Video at Salvage Candy
I was scrolling Facebook and came across a very upsetting video shared by Salvage Candy, a local business many of us know and love. The video shows someone dumping a dog. Literally tossing him out of a vehicle near the Salvage Candy parking lot. As a dog mom and decent human, it made me sick to my stomach.
Meet “Salvage” — The Dog Everyone Is Talking About
The good news? This sweet pup is safe now. Animal control was able to catch him (he was understandably scared and running), and he’s currently being cared for at Evansville Animal Care & Control.
They named him Salvage (cue the tears again). He’s not hurt, and he’s doing really well considering the circumstances. Starting Friday, May 9, after 11 am, you can even preadopt him! He’s on a 10-day hold, but if no one adopts him, the wonderful team at It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue is ready to step in and pull him into foster care.
What Happened to the Person Who Did This?
Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson says deputies were able to track down the vehicle and the person responsible. The man told them the dog showed up at his home after the storms, and he thought the dog was “unmanageable.” Instead of calling for help, he dumped him like trash.
Thankfully, he’s been cited for misdemeanor animal abandonment. I hope this sends a message: our animals deserve better.
How You Can Help
This story is heartbreaking, but it’s also a reminder that we can ALL do something to make things better for animals in our community.
- Adopt or foster when you can
- Volunteer at your local shelter
- Spay and neuter your pets
- Speak up when you see something wrong
- Share stories like this one to spread awareness
Every animal has a story. Let’s make sure more of them have happy endings.
