BOISE – At 7:21 a.m. this morning, Boise Fire crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 3100 block of S Waterbury Ln. Upon arrival, firefighters found visible smoke and flames coming from a 6 unit, single-story residential townhome. Crews immediately coordinated fire attack while ensuring all occupants had safely evacuated.
Thankfully, there were no reported injuries. Fire damage was primarily limited to an exterior wall with minor damage to the attic. A Boise Fire investigator determined the cause to be accidental, resulting from improper disposal of cigarette ash in potting soil, which ignited and spread to the structure.
This incident serves as a critical reminder: always dispose of hot ashes in a metal container with a lid, and store it at least 10 feet away from your home or any combustible materials…
