Original stars of Broadway hit ‘Rent’ take the stage at Popejoy Hall

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Fans of the Broadway hit Rent will have a unique opportunity to see stars from the original Broadway cast on stage at Popejoy Hall. KRQE News 13 spoke with them ahead of their show and what it means to revisit the music that changed theater forever.

Rent debuted in 1996 off Broadway, and became an immediate hit, going on to win four Tonys that year, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for drama. It also brought together two unlikely friends, the show’s stars, Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal. “You can never anticipate that kind of you can’t anticipate any success, much less, you know, the type of success that that rent has, has had. I think that it’s safe to say that we all knew it was incredibly special,” said Pascal.

Their journey to the Broadway stage couldn’t have been more different. Rapp had worked in theater and film for years, notably appearing in the 1980s comedy Adventures in Babysitting While Pascal was a musician and vocalist working in New York. “I grew up playing in rock bands and I’ve been playing, you know, in this type of environment almost my whole life,” said Pascal…
