‘Pretty Defeating’: 1Up team reacts to city’s rejection of downtown club

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Despite months of effort by its owners, a proposal to revive a shuttered downtown Reno venue hit a dead end.

Plans to reopen the 1Up, a venue that aimed to bring live music and nightlife back to Commercial Row, have officially been denied by city officials. The team behind the project spent six months working through the city’s permitting process, but ultimately failed to secure approval.

“It was pretty defeating,” said Tyler Burt, who would have been the club’s general manager. “The downtown vacancy right now is 70% and it’s continuing to get worse.”…
