Periods of rain through the weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Welcome to the weekend! We are starting the day off with cloudy conditions, will likely stick with those clouds throughout the day. Overnight a cold front sagged to our south. This is allowing drier, cooler air to move in from the northeast. A classic Carolina wedge. Temperatures today will be held back into the low 70s. We will see a warm front advance north throughout the afternoon into the overnight hours. So the best chance to see rain before sunset will be in our southern viewing area, and right along the coast. We have drier air aloft, so any rain that does fall should remain fairly light. Highs today will warm into the low 70s, but with a stiff northeast breeze it will feel cooler.

Tonight into Sunday, that warm front will advance north. This will bring some heavier rain to the area through the mid morning hours. A few lightning strikes could be possible as well. So a wet start to Mothers Day. As we get into the late morning hours, the warm front should advance north of our area. This will provide warmer air, and moist air. This will also present the opportunity for increased showers and thunderstorms.

The upper level low that has been parked over the Ohio river valley will finally start to eject east on Monday into Tuesday. It will be slow moving, and will bring the chance of seeing some heavy rain. This is much needed rain, but with it falling all at once, we have a small concern for some isolated flooding in a few locations. Needless to say, model data is in good agreement, most of the area could pick up a few inches of rain…
