I recently journeyed to the “Land of Enchantment.” New Mexico Garden Clubs hosted the South Central Region Garden Clubs Spring Convention in Albuquerque where we were treated to trips to the Albuquerque Garden Center and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Even had a chance to visit “Old Town” Albuquerque.
Albuquerque sits in the Chihuahua Desert valley with the Rocky Mountains on the east side of the city. The city sits 4,925 to 6,500 feet above sea level which had some of our members huffing and puffing till they acclimatized!
The Garden Center is managed by the Council of Albuquerque Garden Clubs and was celebrating their 75th anniversary. The Center’s building was built in 1975 with funds raised by volunteers. It is fully operated by the Council and houses an extensive horticultural library. It has two meeting rooms, a gift shop and prep rooms. They have a charming Japanese pavilion which is used for weddings and other events…
