SPOKANE, Wash. — Lithium-ion batteries power our everyday devices like cell phones and power tools, but they can be dangerous when not handled properly.
The Spokane River Forum hosted a battery take-back event on Saturday to help residents safely dispose of old batteries and prevent dangerous fires.
“If you throw those in your trash, sometimes they can cause a truck to catch on fire, you know, on the way to the solid waste transfer station or at the station itself,” said Kristin Davis, Communications Manager for Spokane Public Works. “So, we really need people to understand the dangers around lithium-ion batteries.”…
